Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training

As part of Public Health Scotland's work with the Scottish Government, to focus on priority areas for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention training, we would like to offer four safeTalk training courses to the employability sector, acknowledging the role of the sector and the impact you have on supporting positive mental health outcomes.

What is safeTalk?

In safeTALK you will learn how to reach out to someone thinking about suicide and help them keep safe by promptly connecting them to further support. safeTALK is a suicide alertness training course delivered over half a day. The session teaches you to recognise people who may have thoughts of suicide and how to connect them to appropriate help. safeTALK prepares participants to activate a suicide alert by following the TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) steps.

How much will it cost?

The training is provided for free however participants will need to cover any travel costs.

When and where will it take place?

This is the first time we have offered sector specific courses and hope to be able to offer more into 25/26; so if you don’t manage to get a place this time around please look out for further opportunities. All publicly advertised courses can be found here:

  • Edinburgh 19th March - The Quaker Meeting House, 7 Victoria Terrace, Edinburgh, EH1 2JL

How is it delivered?

  • The training is a half day programme (usually 3.5 hours) and will require in-person attendance.
  • The course is delivered by one trainer to groups of up to thirty participants.
