Confident Conversations on Child Maintenance
Children have the right to financial support from both parents. However, as of December 2023, £614 million in child maintenance through CMS Collect & Pay remains unpaid. By ensuring parents meet their financial responsibilities, we contribute to Scotland’s national mission to tackle child poverty.
Session Outcomes:
- Increase awareness of child maintenance and the Child Maintenance System
- Build confidence in discussing and reframing barriers to child maintenance
- Understand child maintenance as a child’s rights issue
Max capacity is 20 participants per session:

This training will cover three key areas:
- Child Maintenance Basics: Learn how to apply, support parents, and address common barriers.
- Child Maintenance as a Child’s Right: Reinforce the importance of financial support as a child’s entitlement.
- Framing the Conversation: Practical tips for incorporating child maintenance into income maximisation discussions.
