Action for Children - Youthbuild (Action for Children)
Youthbuild is our flagship programme aimed at young people aged 16-24 years old living in Edinburgh who are facing barriers to employment.
The programme includes several sector-based qualifications, Level 4 SQA Health & Safety in a Construction Environment, 5-year CSCS card (Green card), employability skills and practical workshops. On completion of the training, participants are supported into a 2-week work trial. If successful, the participant will be offered employment and receive in-work support for up to 6 months.
The programme is split into 3 phases:
Training Period
The training element of the programme lasts for 4 weeks and participants will have the opportunity to gain the following certificates/training:
- SQA Level 4 – Health & Safety in a Construction Environment
- CSCS Test & Green Labourer Card (5-year card)
- PASMA – Aluminium Tower Scaffolding
- UKATA Asbestos Awareness
- Abrasive Wheels
- Vehicle Reversing Marshall
- Practical Sessions
- Employability & Personal Development Sessions
Placement Period
After successfully completing the training period participants will be offered a 4-week work trial with a construction employer.
Paid Employment
After successful completion of the 4-week trial, participants will be offered employment with the company.

This programme is aimed at young people aged 16-24 residing in Edinburgh. As we are committed to reducing the gender gap we would welcome applications from women.
Other information
Project staff will support participants through all three phases to maximise attainment and sustainment.
Participants will receive a training allowance of £55 per week plus a bus pass during the training and placement period.
