Cyrenians Key to College (Cyrenians)
Key to College (KTC) offers much-needed outreach family keywork and practical assistance to young people to navigate college application, funding and enrolment processes. These are time sensitive and can be overwhelming to deal with unaided. Most of those we support have no history of further education in their families and few role models to mentor or support them as they access college. We assist young people in school, predominately living in SIMD areas, who could apply to college but are in danger of not applying, or dropping out early if they have been accepted .
We support young people to establish college contacts, become familiar with college systems and negotiate further courses or alternative options. Without this tailored support they would miss out on further education and ‘drop through the net’. A key part is the provision of laptops/tablets and ancillaries -essential to promote the importance of independent study in a post Covid-19 landscape where blended learning is an essential element of college provision. With families we will also prioritise discussions about financial inclusion and accessibility to ensure everyone is fully aware of the options available.
